The only good AI editor that supports Claude Code natively has so far been Zed. It's not PERFECT, but it has been the best experience short of just running Claude Code directly in the CLI.

Zed s not a VSCode clone, and it s fantastic and OSS. I pay them purely because I love the editor, but the editor is free.

Zed also very nicely offers the ability to drop in an API key for their AI agent features... which is awesome and the right thing to do, but not good for profitability.

I'm actually maintaining a fork of Zed with several additional features (Claude Code style skills and slash commands, as well as a global agents.md file, instead of the annoying rules library system, which I removed).

This is a distinctly Zed solution - trying to move the agent experience into the editor... But that’s not in line with Zed’s vision and monetization strategy.

Zed is a heroic effort, but look at the code and you ll see that we still haven t figured out how to do Rust UIs.
