Java just doesn't encourage such terrible cleverness that Scala invites. This might be cultural too where Scala has this functional programming fanatics segment who love the cats library a little too much.

I feel that Scala 3 really hurt the community angle... But I agree that Scala documentation references tutorials are to this very day lacking. This was and still is a real issue.

I think the OxCaml [1] and Scala 3 [2] approaches are better.
