WORKED

Our insurance risk intelligence startup seeks full-stack developers interested in building systems in a mix of Haskell, OCaml, typed JavaScript (Flow TypeScript), React Native and PostgreSQL.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Part of the core system stack for building insurance risk intelligence systems.

FAILED

in 2025 ocaml is hurting JS more than it helps them... 90%+ of their software hires aren't joining because of ocaml, but in spite of it. The well of existing ocaml (or more generally, functional programming) enthusiasts who are qualified and willing to work for JS has been depleted for some time now.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Used as the primary programming language for software development at Jane Street.

WORKED

I played with OCaml 10+ years ago, and couldn't make head or tails of it. I tried again recently, and it just felt familiar and quite obvious.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Tried learning and using the language on two separate occasions, a decade apart.

MIXED

informed by... OCaml (which I wish I was writing instead of Python).
