WORKED

Switching my nixos configuration using the caches in my home office where my custom derivations are built.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Switching NixOS configuration using caches in the home office where custom derivations are built.

WORKED

NixOS is absolutely incredible for its ability to be configured through AI tooling... it's the only operating system that lets one operate with this level of confidence.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Operating system for declarative, rollback-able configuration, trusted for AI-driven system changes like switching audio stacks or installing window managers.

WORKED

I tend to view NixOS not as a distribution, but as a distribution framework. The system configuration is the sources for an immutable distribution as much as it as system configuration.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Using it as a distribution framework for building a customized, immutable system

WORKED

NixOS is high-level declarative, so you're reading high-level config diffs... it's not a mystery what a given nix config change is ever doing.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Using a high-level declarative configuration for system management, including firewall rules

MIXED

Some people run NixOS with COSMIC DE, I'm considering that for my next machine.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Considering it as an operating system for a future machine, potentially with COSMIC DE

MIXED

Additional: Python, F#, Swift, Web assembly, Git, Jujutsu, macOS, Linux (NixOS, Debian), Windows

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Linux distribution used

FAILED

In my experience, they are both more complex _and_ less capable than nixos.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Comparing it favorably as a more capable system deployment model
