WORKED

My philosophy isn't to replace my other tools I love like... ghostty, etc.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: A terminal emulator they love and do not want to replace.

FAILED

Although I have a Mac, my main working machine is Windows so I can never use tools like Ghostty, Tmux, etc.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Wanted to use it as a terminal but could not due to platform constraints.

FAILED

It saved 40MB of memory doing that too, my computer has 16GB I don't care. None of these reasons are very compelling to give up a mature terminal deeply embedded into my workflows.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Considered as an alternative terminal emulator but found its performance claims (speed, memory saving) unpersuasive.

I've been using Ghostty to follow a trend, but I seriously don't understand the benefits netted to me? (other than the cool icon)

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Terminal emulator on Mac, following a trend

ghostty does not. It s like being stuck in mud but it s not just ghostty, all GPU accelerated terminals on Linux I tried have this muddy feel.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Terminal emulator for typing/input

FAILED

For me, a terminal program that requires me to muck with every machine I log into to get it to work is pretty horrible. Making that harder is exactly the opposite of what I want from a key tool like a terminal program.

The commenter questions why an iTerm user should switch, implying skepticism about its value proposition compared to the mature incumbent.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: terminal emulator (potential alternative to iTerm)

WORKED

You can search scroll back on Ghostty nightly. I switched straight from iTerm2 (after 20 years of iTerm).

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Terminal emulator, specifically for searching scrollback

FAILED

Ghostty closed to outside contributors.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Accepting outside contributions to the terminal emulator project.
