For my needs (local testing) Garage seems to be fine. It’s a bit more heavyweight and capable than I need now, but I like that it may give me the option of having an on-premises alternative to S3-compatible stores hosted in the cloud. The bootstrapping is a pain in the ass (having to assign nodes to storage and gateway roles, applying the new roles, etc).

I am running 2 replicas of Garage, one on this server. I am using this for backup for now but probably I will also move my Nextcloud files there and websites.

we still hire people to set up GA... The barrier is still too high.

Native apps have never been great at pretty much anything, with a notable exception of Garage Band which is an absolute banger for its money.

Moved to Garage, it's actually pretty easy to run and use. Would be even nicer if the official Docker image would support initializing a default bucket and access key from env variables... but that's not a dealbreaker.
