I regret moving my family over to Signal because before I used to have all their pictures as part of my photo stream. Since switching I need to manually save pictures but they don't have the correct timestamps then.

Can't move from iOS to Android (and vice versa) without losing your chat history because backups aren't compatible. Yeah, this is a real pain which I wish they had solved years ago.

For Signal, I’ve got no idea. The format is hard to work with for hardcore techies... Make sure to turn on the backups, write down the passphrase... and hope there’s a restore method when you need it.

I can have a higher degree of confidence in the behavior and trustworthiness of the Signal APK I build from source myself than I can from WhatsApp.

I’ve never seen a 'more-correct' system actually replace the value of long-lived chat channels and a culture of discussing things out in the open on those channels.

I installed signal and it worked. I told a friend to install signal and it worked. I told my mom to install signal and it worked. I didn't have to teach any of these people anything to get them to use it.

review the contents of Signal's subpoena response a few years ago... This isn't a sham privacy claim like the kind made by Apple that requires you to trust the provider.

Signal would do for most other situations actually.

This project isnt finished enough to compare to existing tools like Simplex, Signal and WhatsApp...
