But this is directly externally exposed functionality and they are telling the user certain types of uses are banned arbitrarily because they interfere with Anthropic's business.

community tools like OpenClaw that are effectively designed to strategically max out usage windows on the plan. That has clearly caused issues with uptime.

however cool and fun the Claws are, I use Claude Desktop probably more than OpenClaw and it works just fine.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: General usage as a power user

I have been using 'Option B', which wraps the Claude CLI.

Anthropic... blocked OpenClaw and narrowed the practical use case after the sale.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Using it with a Claude Code subscription

Openclaw is great for resolving this since I have much more control which work goes where and also gives a much better user experience without all the back and forth.

With this though, it's ridiculous. Claude core tools are still being used in this case. Shelling out to it to use it there's no different than a normal user would do themselves.

OpenClaw is just a good cover story for that.

He sets it up and uses it... he has all kinds of nonsense hooked up and running blowing through tokens. He is blown away by it and wants to get it for all of his employees.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Setting up and using for various tasks, likely automating processes for a recruiting agency.

This makes it OpenClaw friendly; a possessed agent cannot steal your money. One use case that s taken off recently: agentic commerce. Tools like OpenClaw and Claude Code can spin up a full webstore in minutes.

OpenClaw with tokens is insanely expensive - I blew through the $15 tokens in a matter of a day. The entries would show up as files I could click on, but the files themselves were always empty.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: General usage, writing reports to Canvas as HTML, and using tokens for operation

WORKED

OpenClaw gives me an easy way to access all the other stuff that runs my business.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Accessing and automating workflows across business apps (Slack, Notion, Instagram, Gmail, Calendar)

For that it's a disaster, it's inconsistent and constantly confuses itself. It's the reason openclaw is a foot bazooka.

Every guide we found got us through the happy path. Nobody talks about month six, when something quietly breaks and you re debugging OAuth scopes on a Friday night.

I've heard people saying openclaw just thoroughly sucks, although I've been pretty impressed with its results.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Set up on a clean box to manage the paperclip.ing system for rewriting a large codebase.

The biggest hurdle for us scaling similar OpenClaw setups has been that exact moment: the trade-off between giving a bot the keys to the kingdom and maintaining a hardened perimeter.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Building agentic workflows that touch production data (like Stripe and user DB)
