I migrated from Notion to Obsidian, mainly because of speed, and to a lesser extent I like the philosophy. Having simultaneously embraced AI a lot more, it s been incredible having AI very easily access and work with my notes for me.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Migrated from Notion for note-taking, citing speed and philosophy; used with AI to access and work with notes.

I switched to Obsidian last year, which while proprietary at least gives me the option to move my data somewhere else if I should need to.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Switched to it for note-taking/data management.

Switched to Obsidian, tried to do everything there, but figured Obsidian is great at notes, but wasn’t meant for writing custom JavaScript code to build libraries.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: notes and trying to do everything (including building libraries)

My OpenClaw instance uses an Obsidian project as its memory... instead of the memory being locked away with a specific vendor, it's stored in version control that I can read and edit.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Used as the memory/project storage for an OpenClaw instance, with data stored in version control

Obsidian for second brain. Every idea lived in a different tab. I spent more time managing my tools than doing the work.

Reddit • Solo Founder • Use case: Second brain and note-taking as part of fragmented productivity stack

One time I lost my all notes from obsidian of 2 years... and obsidian's pain was sync.

The transcription was garbage. I'd spend more time fixing transcriptions than actually reviewing my notes.

Obsidian for linking random dots later.

IMO the obsidian editor is best-in-class, and the important thing is owning sync. I also wish it was open source, but I m also impressed with their business model (100% user funded) so I m happy to support them.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Using its editor and graph protocol for a collaborative note-taking project

WORKED

I'm a heavy Obsidian user, and I love it.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Markdown editing and note-taking

Many of my insights in my (analog? vanilla? my human-written) Obsidian vault (that I consider my personal wiki ) have been made or expanded on because I happened to see one note after another in doing the grunt work.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Personal wiki / knowledge base (vault) for insights and note organization

I actually never got into note-taking before I found Obsidian. Now I dump the words down and come back to it later when I want to garden.

I like using markdown. I use it for journaling in Obsidian. It does everything I want it to.
