the Microsoft 365 offering was both superior in quality and more cost-effective

MS365 has all the apps you built except they are feature-rich and some are industry standards (like the Office suite), plus much more - and everything is very well integrated.

most of modern communication isn’t done via meeting invites from... MS Office. I’d hate to see a future where the only practical way to organise some time with someone becomes via business productivity suites.

I just cannot get people to use MS Office, they're constantly sharing Google sheets and docs around. Habits are hard to break!

They added all kinds of customization... but then made it so just dragging a little too long on a button would let you move the button somewhere else. So, grandpa drags the button... and now for all intents and purposes the app is unusable to him.

I'm in the process of migrating my company away from MS 365... I'm actively trying to be more mindful of the companies I support rather than just chasing the lowest bills.

Your organisation has Teams integrated with your Office 365 licensing, which means you're already paying for it. You still need Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
