Gmail was blocking emails forwarded from Google Workspace. Not because the original email was suspect, no, but because Google Workspace isn't forwarding email correctly (ARC or SRS related) and so the SPF check failed.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Accepting email to a domain and forwarding it to a personal Gmail address

FAILED

Workspace is a giant pocket with many billions of users with suboptimal and or perpetually exhausted support.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Business/team productivity platform

WORKED

As a small business owner whose team is entirely in Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail, Chat -- so inbuilt RAG right there).

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Team collaboration and communication (Drive, Gmail, Chat) with inbuilt RAG capabilities

I personally feel that Google has various ways to strong-arm universities into G-suite that are reprehensible and an abuse of taxpayer tuitionpayer dollars.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: University email and productivity suite, partly to address phishing abuse originating from gmail

I had a Workspace account that somehow got wrapped up in the mess, you'll understand how much of a clusterf*** Nest is for the Google ecosystem.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Business/email account that got entangled with a personal Nest subscription

The former means switching to a business account which doesn't always play nice with Google's other services.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Email hosting with catch-all support for a custom domain

What would be a great next step for projects with slightly more needs would be a Google Workspace Outlook sort of service with a similar approach.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Implied as a benchmark for a service with CRM, shared contacts, calendars, etc.

FAILED

As I write this, I realize that Discord is what Google Apps for your Domain was and Slack is the Google Workspace it became.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Implied as a negative, restrictive platform (used as a historical comparison)

WORKED

Most places will use either Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace - those platforms are very well integrated internally.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Integrated platform for documents, spreadsheets, collaboration, etc.

WORKED

I could build my own ERP atop Google's IAM-based role management and Google Workspace—completely eliminating the need for Twilio, WhatsApp, and a million third-party apps via the Workspace API.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Building an ERP to eliminate the need for third-party apps via its API

WORKED

Office 365 and Google Workspace would be the best bets for email and all other common business apps. The platforms also scale easily to thousands of employees if you end up getting to that point. Biggest bang for the buck in my opinion.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Email and common business apps (storage, documents, spreadsheets, presentations)

MIXED

For anyone not in the 365 corporate world looking for office apps, you're unfortunately competing with https://workspace.google.com pricing, regardless of the unique feature set you offer.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Implied standard for office apps outside the 365 corporate world

FAILED

plus a bunch of heavy web apps (think: ... google workspace)

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Using the suite of productivity web apps

WORKED

There’s a small sample of companies who are willing to pay for Google Apps because they like Gmail’s web UI, and they want the rest of the Apps Suite too.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Paid business email and productivity suite for small companies.

WORKED

I’ve been using Workspace exclusively for probably 5 years now. It’s obviously faster to open, the interface has remained clean and simple, and they’ve steadily closed the feature gap with Word, Excel and PPT.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Replacing Microsoft Office for document, spreadsheet, and presentation creation

WORKED

Google Workspace looks like the best option. Decent plus is that I'm already using a Google account for a lot of things except email.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Considering it for email and calendar for a personal domain

MIXED

Looking back I definitely wish I'd paid a bit extra for Google Workspace though, it does look much better suited for a business at our size.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Business productivity and collaboration suite (implied alternative)

FAILED

I have that domain tied to a legacy Google Workspace account which was a huge mistake. It's been tied to my email for at least 15 years.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Legacy email and account services for personal/family use

FAILED

The google domain had a catch all email forwarding config that squarespace botched.

Hacker News • HackerNews • Use case: Domain email hosting with catch-all forwarding
